About the Opportunity
Okanagan Civil Constructors is looking for a full-time Accounting Manager based in Summerland, BC. A hybrid work schedule may be considered after an initial six month training period.
Reporting to senior leadership, this role is responsible for overseeing the organization's full-cycle accounting and financial operations while ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and strong financial controls. The successful candidate will lead the accounting function, support business decision-making through financial insights, and supervise a growing accounting team.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Overseeing Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, payroll, and day-to-day accounting operations
- Preparing journal entries and reconciling assets, inventory, loans, prepaids, and accruals
- Producing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
- Developing budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Preparing and monitoring Work in Progress (WIP) reports in collaboration with Project Managers
- Supervising payroll processes to ensure accurate and timely employee compensation
- Managing tax filings, remittances, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Coordinating annual insurance renewals, including commercial, fleet, and employee benefits programs
- Developing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Leading, mentoring, and managing accounting staff while supporting team growth
- Acting as a liaison with shareholders, external financial professionals, and other stakeholders
- Monitoring financial performance and reporting critical trends and risks to senior management
About You
To qualify, you will need post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role, preferably within the construction industry, will also be essential.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- CPA designation
- Construction cost accounting and job costing experience
- Experience overseeing Accounts Payable, Payroll, and full-cycle accounting functions
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Experience with ERP systems, with Explorer Eclipse experience considered an asset
- Knowledge of tax filings, remittances, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude and an interest in leveraging technology to improve processes
